In the Prairies and parts of Northern Ontario or Quebec, that can happen in late September or early October. In Southern Ontario and the Lower Mainland, it often lines up with mid to late October. Waiting for a storm risks scheduling bottlenecks and sellouts.

A simple temperature-based install timeline

Use this as a planning baseline, then adjust for your city’s pattern.


  • August to September: Reserve your set and book your install window. Inventory is widest now, and you avoid sold-out weeks later.

  • When daytime highs sit near 10°C: Get on the calendar. You will beat the first cold snap rush.

  • When daytime highs settle at or below 7°C: Install time. Performance and safety advantages start here.

  • If you drive to mountain passes or rural routes earlier: Advance your install by 1 to 2 weeks.

Provincial timing realities

  • British Columbia: Coastal regions can stretch installs into late October, but Interior passes change earlier. Winter tires or chains are required on many routes from Oct 1 to spring.

  • Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba: Plan late September to early October. Temperature swings are sharp and early.

  • Ontario: Northern areas often install late September to early October. Southern Ontario tends to mid October, sometimes earlier if nights turn cold.
